We would like to invite you to experience Greece, as a part of our Familiarization Study Tour of Greece in June 14- 27 , 2018!


This study tour  is  being offered to selected faculty teachers /alumni of Classics/History/Philosophy as well as alumni  working as Latin /Greek or History teachers in high schools  among others, at  the highly subsidized rate   of $ 875 per person for a 12  day  study tour of   Greece  (June 14-27, 2018).
Our goal is to get you reacquainted with Greece and its plethora of ancient  sites,  in order to promote the further study tours from your institution to Greece in 2019  and 2020 .


The study tour will be visiting :

ATHENS - PELEPONNESE - DELPHI - METEORA   & Northern Greece with Thessaloniki, Vergina,  Dion, Pella, Philippi ,Thermopylae, Thebes, the island of Aigina and includes:

Hotel accommodation in 3*** and 4**** star hotels

daily buffet breakfast

many Greek traditional dinners

licensed archaeological guide/lecturer

private luxury bus transportation

admission fees

extra features like cooking classes and Greek dancing.

 (Airfare to/from Greece is extra as well as single room occupancy)

The rates are valid for faculty/ teachers  in colleges and universities at Classics Dept, Archaeology Dept , Religion Dept , Art History Dept., Philosophy Dept. ,staff in Continuing Education Dept.  and Study Abroad  Dept. as well as for  teachers in Latin /Greek or History teaching  in high schools.

Spouses  and companions are eligible to join at a higher supplement.

The per person rate will be refunded with first booking of a study tour with us!  Participants are limited to a max. of 25 participants.    

The  amount paid  for the faculty member as well as  for the travel  companion  fee will be  refunded or deducted   from the first group booked   for 2019 and 2020 .

Deadline for  registration is:        March 15th 2018

Deposit:                                            $ 500 p.p. due by March 15th, 2018
Final Payment:                                April  30th, 2018

Day 1, Thursday, June 14: Depart from the US to Athens

Day 2, Friday, June 15: ATHENS   Arrival in Athens International Airport. Meeting and transfer (to hotel near the Plaka and Acropolis area).  Short orientation through the Plaka, the Old town. Special welcome dinner in selected restaurant.  Overnight with breakfast at 4****hotel near the Acropolis, hotel Herodion. (D)

Day 3, Saturday, June 16: ATHENS At 8:30am Meet your guide for a tour of the Acropolis site (on foot) and also visit the Acropolis Museum. Walk through the old town Athens, Plaka. Lunch in Plaka at extra cost. Afternoon free.  8.00 pm dinner offered by the hotel HERODION in their roof top restaurant overlooking the Acropolis.  Overnight with breakfast at Hotel Herodion. Day 4, Sunday, June 17: ATHENS-SOUNION At 8:30am visit with your private guide and bus of the National Arch. Museum and then drive along the Attica Riviera. Stop for lunch at Varkiza (and then reach Cape Sounion, for a guided visit of the Temple of Poseidon. Continue by bus to a unique find, the St. Paul's Monastery in Lavrion, where Greek Orthodox nuns from all around the world are welcoming visitors, show their church and are eager to discuss their daily life and activities, incl. producing their own organic products. Around 6:30pm dinner (included) in Kavouri or Glyfada, overlooking the Aegean. Overnight with breakfast in Hotel Herodion. (B, D)

Day 5, Monday, June 18:   ATHENS - ELEUSIS - NAUPLION.  At 8:30am departure for 3 day land tour to mainlandGreece and the Peloponnese with private guide and coach. Visit Eleusis, the site of the Eleusinian mysteries dedicated to the Goddess Demeter.  Pass by Corinth Canal. Lunch on the way at extra cost. Continue to the famous ancient Greek Theatre of Epidaurus, well preserved, famous for its excellent acoustic, and still in use for Ancient Greek performances today.  Visit the sanctuary and the archeological museum. Drive to Nauplion, once the capital of Greece, with its picturesque port and hill fortress of Palamidi. Dinner in traditional restaurant, “Allaloum”. Overnight with breakfast in Nauplion at Hotel Marianna (B, D)

Day 6, Tuesday, June 19: NAUPLION - MYCENAE. At 8:30am, departure with your private bus and guide for the site of Mycenae. Visit the Royal Palace of Agamemnon, the Royal Tombs and Tomb of Atreus. Continue to visit the Nemea archaeological site with temples, an Olympic stadium, and a small museum.  Visit to a local winery in Nemea, famous for the red variety of "agiorgitiko", learn how the wine is produced, enjoy wine tasting and lunch.  Free afternoon in Nafplion, to climb the Palamides Fortress or visit the renovated Nafplion archaeological museum.  Optional: cooking demonstration of Greek pastries at the home of the hotel owner. Dinner at “Kipos” restaurant with Greek Folk dancing. Overnight (breakfast included) at hotel Marianna. (B, L, D)

Day 7, Wednesday, June 20: NAUPLION - ARACHOVA.  8.30am Depart in the morning with your private bus and guide to Delphi.  Upon arrival, visit the oracle and the fascinating archaeological museum. In the evening, group dinner at Taverna Oistros, a special treat by ETC. Overnight (breakfast included) in Arachova at Hotel Likoria (B, D)

Day 8, Thursday, June 21: DELPHI - KALAMBAKA - Monasteries of Meteora. At 8:30am, drive via Brallos through the mountains and a scenic drive via Trikala to reach Kalambaka, famous for the monasteries of Meteora, built on huge cliffs overlooking the plain of Thessaly. Dinner and overnight in the 4****star hotel Divani Meteora (B, D)

Day 9, Friday, June 22: KALAMBAKA- VERGINA - VERRIA – NAOUSSA. Start in the morning after breakfast to reach the site of Vergina, the archaeological site of the Royal Tomb of King Philip of Macedonia, the father of Alexander the Great and its golden treasures.  On the way, stop at Verria -a city visited by Apostle Paul with a monument in his honor, and an interesting small Byzantine museum and with its small Byzantine chapels. Drive to Naoussa and visit the School of Aristotle, where Alexander the great is believed to have studied. Visit a local winery for wine tasting. Dinner in a typical restaurant and overnight in Thessaloniki in the 4****star hotel Mediterranean Palace (B, D)

 pella Day 10, Saturday, June 23: THESSALONIKI-PELLA.  From Thessaloniki drive to Pella-to visit the ancient capital of Alexander the Great and the Macedonians and a city tour of Thessaloniki.  We will visit the Rotunda, Roman Agora, the archeological or Byzantine museum, the White Tower, the Walls of the city, the Church of St Demetrios - the patron saint of the city. Dinner (Complimentary offered by the hotel) and overnight in Thessaloniki in hotel Mediterranean Palace. (B, D)

Day 11, Sunday, June 24: THESSALONIKI-PHILIPPI. Drive to Philippi, the ancient site where St Paul baptized the first European woman, Lydia.  See the city prison and the early Christian Basilicas and the arch. Museum. Drive back to Thessaloniki. Dinner and overnight in hotel Mediterranean Palace. (B, D)




Day 12, Monday, June 25: THESSALONIKI-DION-THERMOPYLAE-ATHENS. After breakfast, depart for Athens. Visit Dion - the sanctuary of the ancient Macedonians at the slopes of Mount Olympus. Drive to Thermopylae to visit the monument of Leonidas, King of Sparta, the site of the famous battlefield and the small kiosk and exhibit hall.  If time allows, we may also stop in Thebes to visit the newest renovated archaeological museum of Greece with a rich collection of archaeological finds  from the area.  Afternoon arrival in Athens.  Dinner on your own.  Overnight in Hotel Herodion (B)

Deposit payment:   $500 due by March 15th, 2018
Final payment:          April 30th, 2018
Cancellations up to   April 30th   2018 are without penalty.
For cancellations received after April 30th, 2018  to May  15th, 2018  the deposit of $ 500 will be forfeited .
For cancelations received after  May  16th -2018 until day of arrival, full tour cost fees apply (no refund)


Accommodation in 3*** and 4**** hotels in Athens, Nauplion, Arachova, Kalambaka and Thessaloniki for twelve (12) overnights in double rooms with all private facilities

Daily buffet breakfast

Admission fees to sites and museums Faculty, as well as high school teachers, receive free admission passes to all state museums and archaeological sites for 3 years based on proper documentation (students receive 50% discount on entrance fees with proof of valid college student ID card)
