ROME –ORVIETO- FLORENCE-PADOVA-VENICE

 

This tour will offer you  the best of Italy ,its ancient Roman and Etruscan monuments and pieces of arts , its rich architecture in churches and  palaces, its fabulous art treasures in churches and museums as well as giving you a real taste of Italian culture ,wine and food . With reserved time  in the major museums  by our office you avoid long lines .

Day 1  ROME
Arrive Rome airport. Transfer by private bus and our assistant and tour escort    to our Hotel Massimo D'Azeglio Via Cavour, 18 00184 Roma Italia or hotel NORD NUOVA   near the Termini bus station. Check in at the hotel. Short orientation tour by your private  tour escort  to walk towards the Pantheon , Piazza Navona. Welcome dinner included in the hotel. Day 2  ROME
Morning departure for guided visit   (ROMA PASS included: valid for three days for free public transport around Rome, two free admission to first two major sites//museums and reduced for all others) to visit the Coliseum and the Roman and Imperial Fora. and the Palatino museums.


Suggestion for afternoon visits on your own: Ara pacis Augustae and Santa Maria del Popolo (to see Caravaggio’s Crucifixion of St Peter and Blinding of Saul) or the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore (Via Cavour, open 7am-630pm). Overnight  in Rome  


Day 3  ROME
Morning departure by public bus to reach the Vatican area for guided visit of the Vatican Museums   (Raphael, Stanza della Segnatura, etc., frescoes, Sandro Botticelli, Perugino, et al., Sistine Chapel wall frescoes of Michelangelo, Sistine Chapel ceiling and Last Judgment). Continue to visit the famous St Peter’s Basilica. Suggestion for afternoon visits on your own: Visit the Borghese Gallery , amidst a beautiful park with an impressive art collection of more than 300 years- open 9am-7pm. www.galleriaborghese.it   Advance reservation is required. Basilica di Santa Maria in Trastevere (Piazza di Santa Maria; 06 581 48 02; 7.30am-1pm, 4-7pm), believed to be the oldest Roman church dedicated to the Virgin
 Basilica di Santa Cecilia in Trastevere (admission free; 9am-12.30pm & 4.15-6.30pm Mon-Sat), with its magnificent 13th-century fresco and oldest extent baptistry in Rome, dating back to possibly the 5th century.

  Day 4 ROME.Day trip  by metro and bus to OSTIA ANTICA (no guide)


Morning by metro/bus  and  our  tour escort  travel (no guide ) to  OSTIA ANTICA  for  a visit of this ancient Roman harbour town with interesting dwellings and houses to see how the Romans lived in the Roman times  . Return to Rome late  afternoon. . Overnight.

Day 5 ROME-ORVIETO
Morning departure by  train  and  your tour escort  to reach ORVIETO on our way to Florence. You can visit the famous Orvieto Cathedral,the Papal Residence, the Etruscan Necropolis and the  possibly part of the Underground city,  Overnight in Hotel  GRAND HOTEL ITALIA  Hotel will send luggage van.  Transportation by funicular.

Day 6   ORVIETO  .Free day to visit many of the sites of Orvieto.

Overnight .Orvieto.  Local tourist card included.
 

Day 7 ORVIETO  - Florence

By  train  departure for Florence and your tour escort  travel  to Florence .Orientation tour of Florence,  guided visit of  the famous Uffizi gallery (open 815am-650pm, closed Mondays, reservation required  )Continue visit Santa Croce and the Pazzi chapel (open 930am-530pm, www.sabtacroce.firenze.it) with burial monuments  of Machiavelli, Dante, Rossini, Galileo, Rossini and Marconi among others Suggestion to visit on your own:

Santa Maria Novella and its Chapter House (the Spanish Chapel) (Open: Weekdays: 9 – 5 pm  Friday : 1-5 pm Holidays 1-5 pm Adm.fees: Euro 2.50 )and Santa Maria del Carmine.

Day 8 . FLORENCE .
Guided visit to the Galileo Museum.Guided visit of the DUOMO(10 am – 5 pm ) and its Battestero di San Giovanni ( 12- 7 pm)
Overnight in   FlorenceOvernight in hotel Silla in Florence.

Day 9 FLORENCE 
Morning  guided visit of Accademia (open  815am-650pm Tues-Sun – reservation required ) with the famous statue of David..    And guided visit of the replica of  Dantes   house of birth . 10 am – 5 pm  .Suggestion for further visits: Bargello Museum ( 7 Euro )Medici Chapels and Tombs Mon-Sund 8.15-6 pm   ^euro + 3 Eur res.fee, San Marco Museum (open until 150pm)  4 Euro

Day 10 FLORENCE –PADOVA.
By rail from Florence to Padova.Walk to your hotel  GRAND ITALIA    near the railway station. Orientation tour on foot in Padova. Scrovegni Chapel Basilica di Sant'Antonio da Padova,
9- 6 pm   10 minutes visit , Reservation online possible.

 

( Prato della Valle, a 90,000 m2 (968,751.94 sq ft) elliptical square. This is believed to be the biggest in Europe, after Place des Quinconces in Bordeaux. In the centre is a wide garden surrounded by a ditch, which is lined by 78 statues portraying famous citizens.

Day 11  PADOVA –VENICE .
By rail only 30 minutes rail ride to Venice for guided visit of  VENICE   with the Basilica of  San Marco ,   9.45- 5 pm   . Treasury  3 Ero.The Doges Palace( 9- 7pm)   tel 0039-41- 427-30892  . and also the Bridge of Sighs .Ride thru the Grand Canal with all imposing Venetian Palace. Visit the Santo Stephano  Church. Return to Padova for overnight .  

Day 11   .PADOVA
Breakfast and transfer bus to  Venice airport ,

Vatican Museum is the only museum offering reduced student admissions( 8 euro versus 14 euro reg.rate) based on a certificate from the College. Reservation has to done at least 8-12 months prior arrival due to the high demand!

Flights to and from Italy from the US are not included.
Dinners not mentioned, lunches, drinks and other services.
Gratuities to guides ,tour escort and drivers( recommended:  2 euro per person per  day)for each.
Guide services in Orvieto and in Ostia Antica.
