Astypalaia Island to have electronic….vehicles by Volkswagen Group

A significant deal has been signed between the Greek government and German auto giant, Volkswagen Group.  The news is that electric vehicles, scooters and bikes will replace Astypalaia’s polluting cars, thus transforming Astypalaia into the first “smart” energy and “green” island in the Mediterranean while at the same time rendering it a model of sustainable development.

“Volkswagen’s decision to come to Greece for the implementation of this project constitutes a vote of confidence in Greece’s growth prospects but also the seriousness of this government, its ability to put into action a complex project,” said the Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

Herbert Diess, CEO Volkswagen Group said that with the Astypalaia project they will explore how to realize their vision of climate neutral mobility for everyone as e-mobility and smart mobility will improve the quality of life, while contributing to a carbon neutral future.
